Professional energy audits are detailed and specific. These energy audits cover what isn’t working in your home and provide recommendations for repairs. An energy auditor might recommend attic insulation, air sealing, or even new windows. At Dr. Energy Saver, our energy experts are highly trained to find your home’s energy issues. Our auditors use advanced technology and state of the art equipment to provide you with the very best insight into your home.

If we have the best tech and the best training… why am I talking about DIY energy audits?

Maybe you aren’t ready for us. Maybe you think you might need an energy audit but you aren’t sure. Maybe your home is uncomfortable but you don’t know why. There are a few tests you can do, on your own, to determine how badly you may need a professional audit.

The toilet paper test. This test can help you find air leaks in your home. Rip off a few squares of toilet paper. Hold the paper in front of places that may not be properly sealed: windows, doors, around a fireplace or wood stove, ceiling light fixtures, and anywhere else you think might be leaking air. If the paper moves, conditioned air is escaping from your home

The candle test. In honor of my favorite holiday, Halloween. This spooky test will help you find drafts in your home. For a real thrill, try it at night with the lights off! Light a candle. Place it in various spots in your house, if the flame flickers, you’ve got a draft… or a ghost!

If your toilet paper is moving and your candle is flickering, consider getting a professional energy audit. Dr. Energy Saver will audit your home, free of charge. Get in touch today!

NOTE: I do not actually recommend walking around in the dark with a lit candle. Additionally, Dr. Energy Saver Northshore cannot help with any non corporeal issues your home may have.
